Historic Seattle Conservatory Featuring a Dedicated Palm House and Classic Tropical Displays
Located in Seattle’s Volunteer Park, the Volunteer Park Conservatory is a Victorian-style glasshouse completed in 1912 and modeled after London’s Crystal Palace. The conservatory is divided into five distinct display houses, including a central Palm House where tropical plants are cultivated in a warm, humid environment. Within the Palm House, palms are a defining feature of the space, growing alongside orchids, cycads, and other tropical species in a carefully maintained indoor ecosystem. The structure allows for tall canopy plants, with specimens reaching up to 25 feet in height, creating a layered and immersive experience. While compact in scale, the conservatory houses thousands of plant specimens overall, with palms forming a key component of the tropical collection. The historic architecture and focused plant displays combine to create an intimate and educational setting. With its dedicated Palm House and classic greenhouse design, the Volunteer Park Conservatory offers a refined and authentic opportunity to experience palms in the Pacific Northwest.
