About Syagrus schizophylla
This is a small to medium-sized, unique looking solitary palm with a slender, upright trunk that is often densely covered in persistent old leaf bases, giving it a rough, fibrous, and highly textured appearance. Its crown is composed of gracefully arching pinnate leaves with uniquely split, twisted, and irregularly arranged leaflets. It is one of only a few species of its genus with teeth along the petioles. The inflorescences emerge among the leaf bases and produce small, typically yellowish to orange fruits when mature. Native to eastern Brazil, this species occurs in coastal areas with sandy soils, and seasonally dry habitats, where it is well adapted to sun, wind, and nutrient-poor conditions. Its distinctive foliage and resilience have made Syagrus schizophylla one of the most recognizable and widely cultivated members of the genus. As a young plant, it is sometimes confused with a species of Phoenix.

Cultivation Tips
Plant in well-draining soil, as the plant does not tolerate standing water. Choose a location in full sun for your as it prefers bright, direct light. Water regularly, but be sure to allow the soil to dry out slightly between watering. Overwatering can cause the plant to become susceptible to root rot. Feed every few months with a high quality palm fertilizer to encourage healthy growth.
