This species is a medium sized clustering palm.  In habitat, it can be found in humid forests and along streams, at medium elevation.  Frequently, it will be growing in rocky slopes, hence its common name.  It has slender stems and finely pinnate leaves with long unarmed petioles.  The branched inflorescence emerges from the leaves and is upright and arches outward with small yellow flowers.  The small oval shaped fruit turns from light green to orange as it ripens.  Still quite rare in cultivation.
