This is a solitary species native to the Orinoco River basin.  It has a slender, smooth gray ringed trunk that can reach medium to tall heights. The crown carries long pinnate leaves, with narrow, gracefully arching green leaflets arranged in a slightly V-shaped orientation that gives it a full, feathery appearance. Inflorescences emerge among the leaves, bearing both male and female flowers that later form clusters of oval fruits, typically yellow to orange when ripe.  This species is still uncommon in cultivation and is rarely seen outside its native range, but its attractive form and adaptability make it a desirable species for collectors.
