About Serenoa repens

This species has large, feathery fronds that can be yellowish-green in color. The petioles have serrated edges. It is commonly found in landscaping and is often used as a specimen plant in residential and commercial landscapes. The species is also known for its edible fruit, which is commonly used for making juice and extract for use in dietary supplements. One of the most cold hardy species native to the United States.

Cultivation Tips

This species is easily grown in any well-drained soils in full sun to full shade. It will benefit from regular waterings at first but will be very drought tolerant once established. It is both drought and salt tolerant. Feed twice a year during the growing season with good quality slow release fertilizer.
