About Saribus surru
This species is a stately solitary fan palm native to rainforests and swamp forests at elevations up to ~1,300 m. Its tall, slender trunk bears smooth, light-gray bark and supports a globe-like crown of 17–29 large, fan shaped leaves. Each leaf is held on long petioles, armed with black spines near the base, and the blade is deeply divided with softly pendulous segment tips. Its inflorescences are branched, and it produces large, round fruit that ripen to a vivid orange-red. Locally useful and still relatively rare in cultivation.

Cultivation Tips
Select a warm, humid site with filtered light or partial shade while young, shifting toward more sun as the plant matures. Use a rich, well-draining soil, enriched with organic matter, to mimic its rainforest swamp-edge habitat. Maintain consistent moisture — do not let the soil dry out — but ensure drainage to prevent prolonged waterlogging. Fertilize regularly during the growing season with a balanced palm fertilizer. Give space for its eventual size and protect young plants from strong wind and cold, as it is not frost-hardy.
