About Saribus merrillii
This is a striking solitary fan palm that develops a tall, straight trunk marked by evenly spaced leaf scars as it matures. The crown is full and rounded, made up of rigid, deeply divided costapalmate leaves that are rich green above and slightly lighter beneath, with stout petioles that often show fibrous remnants near the base. As the palm matures, long arching inflorescences emerge from among the leaves, extending well beyond the crown and adding movement and texture. These eventually produce small, rounded fruits that mature to a dark color, providing seasonal interest and completing the palm’s classic tropical look.

Cultivation Tips
This palm performs best in warm, tropical to subtropical climates where it has plenty of space to grow upward and outward. Young plants appreciate partial sun while establishing, but mature specimens thrive in full sun, where they develop stronger trunks and fuller crowns. Well-drained soil is essential, though this species is adaptable and performs well in sandy, loamy, or lightly amended native soils. Regular watering during establishment encourages steady growth, after which the palm becomes moderately drought tolerant once established. A balanced palm fertilizer applied several times during the growing season will support healthy leaf color, strong growth, and long-term vigor.
