About Sabal lougheediana
This species is a critically endangered palm in the Dutch West Indies. Observed in 1979 but first reported in 2019 as endemic to Bonaire. Only 25 adult plants left in the wild. Originally classified as Sabal antillensis, this species is distinctly different in several ways. It is slightly taller than its sister species and capable of holding up to 35 leaves at its crown and these leaves are uniquely spikey and stiff. Its trunk has unique scaring, left from fallen leaves from the top to the bottom.

Cultivation Tips
Select a location that receives full sun to partial shade, even when young. Plant in rich, well drained soil. It is somewhat drought tolerant, so take precautions not to overwater and don't let roots sit in water for extended periods of time. Feed occasionally during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer.
