Cultivation Tips

Select a warm, humid tropical or subtropical climate, where it can enjoy full sun once mature (younger plants do better with some protection).  Plant in rich, freely-draining soil, ideally in a location with consistent moisture and good humidity; avoid heavy water-logging or extended dry periods. Use a mix with good drainage, maintain moderate to high humidity, and ensure consistent watering without letting the roots sit in soggy conditions. Although mature plants tolerate full sun, juveniles often grow best under partial shade and out of strong winds while establishing. Apply a balanced palm fertilizer periodically, and be mindful of pot or container size if grown in cooler climates—larger root space helps support its upright growth. In cooler or marginal zones, container cultivation with winter protection or indoor shelter is advisable, as this palm is not frost-tolerant.
