Endemic to the southern part of the island, often found occurring in groups in either dry forest or bush areas at low elevation. This is a solitary, medium sized palm with a pale brown trunk, slightly swollen at the base. Hanging down from the crown and often covering part or all of the trunk are densely packed skirt of leaf remnants. Its crown is topped with feather shaped, narrow, stiff leaves, bluish green in color. The inflorescence is branched, short and emerges from among the leaves. The oval shaped fruit turns yellow as it ripens. One of the rarest species of its genus. In the wild, it is considered vulnerable due to natural habitat loss
