This is a solitary, slender-trunked palm that grows upright with a refined, understated presence typical of Madagascar’s forest palms. In the wild, Ravenea moorei has teetered on the edge of extinction for decades, with long stretches where it was feared lost entirely outside cultivation. Recent field work led by Kew and partners rediscovered a last, tiny wild population on Grande Comore (Mount Karthala). Its crown holds a modest number of arching, pinnate leaves with narrow, evenly spaced leaflets that create a light, elegant canopy rather than a dense silhouette.  The inflorescences emerge among the leaves, producing compact clusters of small flowers that are followed by rounded fruits.  When mature, the fruits ripen to a dark hue, offering a subtle contrast against the green foliage and pale trunk. This species is extremely rare in cultivation and is best known for its conservation importance rather than ornamental availability.
