About Pritchardia hillebrandii
This is a medium sized palm with trunks that are smooth or fibrous when young, with vertical fissures on a dark grey background, obscurely ringed by leaf scars as they mature. It is very tropical in appearance, yet is one of the most cold-hardy of the species. This single-stemmed palm is topped with a dense crown of fan-shaped fronds that range in color from green to blue-grey. The flowers are golden yellow, followed by black, marble-sized fruit. In habitat, they are considered to be “Critically Endangered” with the last existing forest located on an islet off of the Molokai coast.

Plant in a location that receives full sun. This species is drought, salt and wind tolerant. It tolerates low levels of humidity, though it prefers evenly moist but not consistently wet soil. This species is adaptable to a variety of soils, provided it is well drained. Feed regularly during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer.
