Recently discovered (2023) species with a unique trait, it flowers and fruits completely underground. It is widespread in rainforest valleys on the west of the island. This species is a small, solitary, understory palm with a very short stem buried underground. The stem will develop leaf scars and the small crownshaft may only slight rise above ground level. The crown will usually have 4 - 6 dark green, glossy leaves. The inflorescences are short and emerge underground below the leaf crown. The oval shaped fruit starts out white, turns to pale green and finally becomes bright red when fully ripe. The fruit is a food source for the local communities.
