It does not form a crownshaft but instead carries its leaves on sheathed bases that clasp the stem. The crown is composed of pinnate leaves with narrow, glossy green leaflets that arch elegantly, sometimes with a slightly pendulous effect, creating a soft, feathery texture. Inflorescences emerge below the leaves and display small, branched sprays of flowers that are typical of the genus. These develop into clusters of small, round fruits that ripen red to orange, adding ornamental color to the plant. This palm is endemic to the Malaysian state of Perak, where it grows in moist, shaded forest understories — its restricted range makes it of particular conservation interest.
