This is a solitary understory palm that forms a slender trunk with an elegant rainforest habit. Its leaf sheaths form a crownshaft, while the crown carries pinnate leaves with relatively few, curved leaflets that may be closely or more openly spaced. The foliage has the refined, arching look typical of many ornamental Pinanga, with juvenile leaves beginning as simple bifid leaves before developing into divided adult foliage. The inflorescence emerges below the crownshaft and produces abundant fruit clusters. Its most distinctive feature is the fruit, which becomes shiny, almost translucent wine-red before ripening black. This is a rare palm in cultivation and a particularly interesting addition for collectors who appreciate obscure Southeast Asian understory palms.
