About Nypa fruticans
This species is broadly distributed from the Indo-Pacific mangrove region to the Central part of Africa. In some areas, it is considered an invasive species. It is a unique palm that is well adapted to growing in salty and brackish water environments. It has a stout, underground stem that is covered in long, brown fibers. The leaves of the palm can get up to 9 feet long. The leaflets are a light green color and have a glossy appearance. The large, branching inflorescence produces small flowers. The oval shaped fruit starts green, turning brown to black as they become ripe. This species plays an important ecological role in mangrove ecosystems, as they help stabilize the soil and provide habitat for a variety of species.

Cultivation Tips
Plant in a location that receives plenty of water, even brackish or saline water. This species thrives in a warm, humid, tropical climate. Provide partial shade to full sun. Feed regularly with a high quality palm fertilizer several times during the growing season. It will also be helpful to prune regularly to remove dead or damaged leaves to promote healthy growth.
