This is a clustering species, typically with numerous slender stems.   Each stem is monocarpic, meaning it only flowers once before dying back and producing an offshoot.  The crown has stiff costapalmate glaucous gray green to leaves with smooth, unarmed petioles.   Fronds are generally stiff and maintain an open fan shape.  The branched inflorescence emerges from the leaves and can reach up to 2m in length.  The flowers are small, typically white to yellowish in color.  The small fruit is round to oval in shape and turns from green to brown as it ripens.
