About Lodoicea maldivica
This huge solitary palm has the longest leaves and the largest and heaviest seeds of any plant in the world (50 lbs / 22 kg). Its distinctive gray trunk is tall, and straight and is ringed with leaf scars. Its massive fan shaped leaves are stiff and arching when young, and grow up to 10 meters in diameter. The petioles can reach 2-4 meters in length. This palm is dioecious, with separate individuals produce male and female flowers. The fruits take up to seven years to fully mature and contain the two-lobed seed. While not commercially available, the edible fruit has a sweet, milky flavor.

Cultivation Tips
Best grown in evenly moist, well-draining soil in full sun. Prefers warm, tropical climates. Water regularly and take precautions not to let the soil dry out in between watering. Feed several times during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer.
