About Livistona victoriae
This is a solitary palm with a slender, gray trunk which often displays old leaf bases near the crown. It does not form a crownshaft, instead transitioning directly from trunk to foliage. The crown is rounded and composed of large, rigid, palmate leaves that are deeply divided, with glossy green upper surfaces and pale, silvery undersides that shimmer in sunlight. Its inflorescences emerge among the leaves, producing many small cream-colored to yellowish flowers arranged on branched panicles. These give way to globose, shiny black fruits about 2 cm in diameter, which ripen in clusters and attract wildlife. A historical note — this palm is named for the Northern Territory’s Victoria River District in Australia, where it is endemic to rugged sandstone escarpments and gorges.

Cultivation Tips
This species thrives if planted in well-drained, sandy or rocky soils and is best suited for gardens that can mimic its native arid, rocky habitat. Young palms tolerate partial shade, but mature specimens prefer full sun for best crown development. Good drainage is essential, as the species does not adapt well to waterlogged conditions. Regular watering during establishment helps growth, but once mature, it is highly drought-tolerant and only needs supplemental water in prolonged dry spells. A light application of a balanced palm fertilizer two to three times per year will support steady growth, though this is a naturally slow-growing palm.
