About Livistona nitida
This species is a tall, solitary palm with a pale grayish brown trunk. The trunk is narrowly ringed with prominent petiole stubs at the base, turning a smooth brownish red near the top. The broad crown has deep green fan shaped leaves becoming yellowish near the leaflets. Petioles are armed with small red to black thorns. When mature, some feel it looks like a smaller version of Washingtonia robusta. Small round fruit turns black as it ripens.

Cultivation Tips
Plant in a sheltered position in a fertile moist but well-drained soil that is preferably neutral to acidic. In habitat, these grow in forests and, especially when young, require some shade from the sun for at least part of the day Although this species prefers a deep moist soil, they can also succeed in dry climates. Feed occasionally during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer.
