The entire range of this palm tree falls within Finke Gorge National Park in the Northern Territory in Australia. This is a solitary palm species with a trunk covered in a dense mass of dark brown fibers when young. As a juvenile, this species is very colorful, with red petioles and red tinged leaves. As it matures, the color will eventually fade. It has cream colored flowers that grow on branches along a 1-2 meter long inflorescence within the crown. The small round fruit turns purple to black when ripe.
