This is a solitary fan palm native to the lowland rainforests of Peninsular Malaysia, where it grows in small, isolated populations. Its slender, gray trunk is ringed with old leaf scars and topped with a symmetrical crown of nearly circular, pleated leaves that create a beautifully balanced silhouette. Each leaf is deeply divided into elegant, tapering segments that radiate outward like a living parasol, catching the filtered light of the forest canopy. The petioles are long, arching, and armed with small teeth near their base, though these diminish as the palm matures. The inflorescences emerge among the leaves, carrying clusters of small, cream-colored flowers that later develop into shiny black fruit. In its native habitat, it’s a rarely seen palm — and in cultivation, it’s treasured by collectors for its rarity and graceful form.
