About Livistona boninensis
This species is native to Japan’s remote Bonin (Ogasawara) Islands. It is a solitary fan palm with a tall, slender trunk. Its trunk is gray and ringed with old leaf scars, giving it a refined, columnar appearance. The crown consists of large, deeply divided fan leaves with drooping tips, creating a soft, rounded canopy that moves beautifully in coastal breezes. Unlike some Livistona species, it has no crownshaft, but its bright green leaves radiate elegantly from long, sturdy petioles armed with small teeth near the base. The inflorescences emerge among the leaves, bearing clusters of creamy-yellow flowers that later produce small, glossy black fruits.
