This is a solitary fan palm selected in cultivation for its ornamental yellow-green foliage, which can make the crown appear noticeably brighter than typical green forms. It forms an upright, ringed trunk that is often textured by retained leaf bases and petiole stubs, giving older specimens a rugged, “armored” look. The fan shaped costapalmate leaves are held on long petioles that are typically armed with sharp marginal teeth. Like the standard species, it is associated with wet or seasonally inundated habitats (swamp forest, stream margins, gallery forest), which helps explain its preference for consistent moisture in cultivation.
