This is a clustering understory palm that forms tight groups of slender stems emerging from a shared base. The trunks remain relatively thin and short, often partially concealed by persistent leaf bases. This species lacks a crownshaft, with its leaves emerging directly from the top of each stem. The crown consists of elegant circular fan leaves divided into numerous narrow, pleated segments that give the palm a finely textured appearance typical of the genus. Its inflorescences emerge among the leaves and branch into delicate sprays of small flowers, which develop into round fruits that ripen from green to red. This species is quite rare and likely endangered in its native habitat.
