About Licuala mattanensis var. mattanensis
Native to tropical rainforests where it grows in deep shade. This species is notable for its striking, green and yellow mottled leaves. Rectangular leaflets are spread radially like the spokes of a wheel. Leaf tips have square-cut ends. Very mature specimens may eventually grow a short trunk. When in bloom, the inflorescence contains small cream colored flowers. The small, oval shaped fruit turns orange as it ripens.

Cultivation Tips
Select a sheltered location that receives full to partial shade with indirect sunlight. Plant in rich soil with excellent drainage. This is a tropical species, so a warm, humid envirorment is optimal. Water regularly to ensure the soil does not dry out in between waterings. Feed occasionally during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer.
