This is a small solitary palm with a slender trunk. The crown is small but distinctive, carrying circular, fan-shaped leaves that are deeply divided into wedge-like segments, with some leaflets arranged in a slightly irregular or “fractiflex” pattern, which gives the species its name. Inflorescences arise among the leaves, bearing delicate branching sprays of small flowers. These mature into clusters of small, round fruits that turn bright red when ripe, adding ornamental interest. Known from the forests of Malaysia, it is considered rare in cultivation, prized for its elegant leaf form and relatively compact size.
