This is a solitary understory palm with a very slender trunk that typically remains hidden among forest vegetation or may appear nearly trunkless when young. The crown is composed of perfectly circular, fan-shaped leaves that are deeply pleated and divided into wedge-shaped segments, giving the palm a refined, almost sculptural appearance. Its inflorescences emerge among the leaves and branch into fine flowering structures that later develop into small round fruits. The fruits mature from green to reddish tones, adding subtle color to this elegant rainforest species. Rare in cultivation
