This is a rare clustering fan palm endemic to the evergreen forests of Vietnam. It develops multiple slender stems crowned by graceful, costapalmate leaves divided into numerous narrow, regularly arranged segments that create a refined, symmetrical appearance. The lightly armed petioles bear small recurved teeth near their bases, while upright inflorescences emerge among the leaves before producing small, rounded white fruits. The specific epithet hexasepala combines the Greek hexa ("six") with the Latin sepalum ("sepal"), referring to the species' remarkable flowers, which possess six sepals. This uncommon floral characteristic played an important role in distinguishing the species from its close relatives and makes it one of the more botanically distinctive members of the genus.
