About Hyphaene thebaica
This is a distinctive species of palm in that the trunk branches and has tufts of large leaves at the ends of the branches. The bark of the stem is fairly smooth, dark grey and bears the scars of fallen leaves. The petioles sheath the branch at the base and are armed with sharp spines. The leaves are fan shaped, spirally arranged and are dark green to bluish. The inflorescences can get to 1.2M long, branching irregularly. Large orange fruits remain on the tree for a long period and are edible.

Cultivation Tips
A surprisingly tolerant palm, found naturally in tropical and subtropical arid to semiarid areas. Plant in a location that receives full sun to partial shade. It will thrive in rich soil that is very well drained, but can tolerate a wide range of soil types. Water regularly allowing only the top layer of soil to dry out in between waterings. Once established, it is quite drought tolerant. Feed occasionally during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer.
