This is a lesser-known species of palm native to Sulawesi (formerly known as Celebes, which the species name references).  In its native habitat, this solitary or clustering can be found in rainforests.  It produces multiple slender, grayish stems marked with prominent leaf ring scars. A smooth, green crownshaft extends below the foliage, adding a clean and elegant touch to the overall form. Its pinnate leaves arch gracefully outward with evenly spaced, narrow leaflets that create a delicate, feathered appearance. The inflorescences emerge just below the crownshaft and feature both male and female flowers on the same branched stalk. Small, oval fruits turn from green to purple or black when mature.
