About Heterospathe uniformis
This species is a solitary palm with a slender trunk and a crown of finely pinnate leaves. The inflorescence emerges from within the leaves. The small, oval shaped fruit turns red when fully ripe. The bark and fruit have numerous commercial uses; most notable is the fruit consumed as a stimulant. Despite its ornamenal characteristics, it is still very rare in cultivation.

Cultivation Tips
Select a location that receives full to partial shade, especially when young. As it matures, it can handle periods of indirect sunlight. Plant in rich acidic soil with excellent drainage. Water frequently as this species requires plenty of water to thrive. Avoid letting soil dry out in between waterings. This is a tropical species, so a warm, humid environment is preferrable. Feed occasionally during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer.
