About Gaussia maya
In its native habitat, this species grows in forests in rocky areas in limestone soils at low elevation. This is a solitary palm with a trunk that bulges at the base when young, but shrinks as the palm matures. Its crown has up to eight feather shaped leaves that are arranged in an irregular plane, giving it a fuller appearance. When flowering, this species can have up to a dozen inflorescences. Round fruit turns bright red when fully ripe.

Cultivation Tips
This species can tolerate full sun, but performs best if planted in a location that receives partial shade. Prefers rich, well-draining soil that's high in nutrients and organics. It requires warmth and a consistently moist soil for best growth. Feed occasionally during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer. Despite its unique characteristics and appearance, it is still quite rare in cultivation.
