About Dypsis rivularis
This is a solitary palm that inhabits streamside habitats in humid lowland forests. Its slender, ringed trunk is topped with a dark green crownshaft. Its crown of feather shaped leaves bears narrow, gracefully arching leaflets. The inflorescences appear between the leaves and carry small flowers that later form ellipsoid fruits, ripening to darker shades. The species name, rivularis, reflects its close association with rivers and streams. In the wild, it grows in wet, shaded habitats.

Cultivation Tips
This species requires a consistently moist, shaded location to mimic its riverine origins. It should be grown in rich, organic soil with excellent drainage but steady access to water. Young palms need high humidity and protection from direct sun, while mature specimens may tolerate filtered light. Watering should be frequent to prevent the soil from drying out, as this species is adapted to streamside conditions. Fertilize lightly three to four times per year during active growth, but avoid over-fertilization as it naturally thrives in nutrient-cycling forest floors.
