This species grows naturally in the moist forests of northern Madagascar, so it performs best in a protected garden location that mimics a shaded or partially shaded forest understory. Young plants should be kept in bright shade or filtered sunlight, while mature specimens may tolerate gentle morning sun but should be protected from harsh afternoon exposure. This species prefers rich, well-drained soil with a high organic content that retains moisture without becoming waterlogged. Consistent watering is important, as it thrives in evenly moist conditions and does not tolerate extended periods of drought. Apply a balanced slow-release palm fertilizer two to three times per year during the growing season to encourage steady, healthy growth.
