About Cyphosperma balansae
This is a solitary palm species, notable for its striking trunk, which is dark green to black trunk with prominent rings, often whitish. It has an incomplete short crownshaft, made up of 3-5 overlapping leaf bases; nearly black at its base fading to a pale green covered with a white powder on top. The palm has many erect leaves and long (2-3 m) arching inflorescences. The leaves are held erect with short petioles, giving it a sort of shaving brush appearance.

This species is relatively easy to grow, once past the seedling stage, yet rarely seen in cultivation, Until mature, pay attention to temperature range, as it may be sensitive to extremely high or low temperatures. Requires full to partial shade when young, can take full sun when mature. Requires consistently moist soil; do not let dry out between waterings. Feed several times during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer.
