This is a small, tidy fan palm with a refined look that feels a bit more understated than many of its flashier relatives. Its leaves are compact and held on noticeably short leaf stalks, giving the crown a tight, well-organized appearance rather than a sprawling one. One of its most interesting traits is what it doesn’t have—the leaf undersides stay green instead of showing the bright silvery color people usually associate with this genus. The seeds are also unusually small, another subtle clue that this palm is something a little different. Perhaps most intriguing of all, this species is only known from cultivated plants in South Florida, and its true wild origin remains unknown, making it one of those rare palms that still carries a bit of botanical mystery.
