About Coccothrinax acuminata
Formerly Coccothrinax miraguama subsp. arenicola. This species is native to areas along Cuba’s coasts, where its slender trunk rises from white dunes and scrub. It carries a compact crown of stiff, fan-shaped leaves. The trunk is wrapped in coarse fiber near the top, giving it a rugged coastal character. Tiny blossoms appear within the crown, leading to small fruits that turn from red to deep purple-black.

Cultivation Tips
Grow it in full sun with sandy, free-draining soil—think beach conditions. Water to establish, then reduce frequency; it prefers things on the dry side. Excellent for coastal gardens, it tolerates wind and salt spray effortlessly. Cold and damp combined can be fatal, so keep soil dry during chilly spells. Fertilize lightly once or twice during the warm season.
