About Clinostigma savoryanum
This species is native to the remote Ogasawara (Bonin) Islands, far off the coast of Japan. It is the most cool-tolerant species of this genus. It is a solitary palm with a slender, smooth, light gray trunk. Its crownshaft is light green with a whitish waxy hue. The leaves are slender and pinnate, with leaflets that droop. The inflorescences are stiffly ascending and white. The fruits are oval in shape. When ripe, the fruits turn red. This species is considered "threatened" by habitat loss, due to expanding human settlement, and the degradation of the forests.
