This is a slender solitary palm with a smooth gray trunk that rises gracefully from the sandy coastal forests of southeastern Madagascar. A well-formed green crownshaft supports an elegant crown of arching feather leaves whose narrow leaflets create a soft, airy canopy. The foliage forms a neat, compact crown, giving the palm a refined appearance despite its relatively modest size. Branched inflorescences emerge below the crownshaft and produce small cream-colored flowers typical of many palms in the genus. These develop into small oval fruits that ripen to yellow or orange tones. This species is extremely rare in habitat and is restricted to the Saint Luce region of Madagascar, where coastal forest loss has placed the palm at serious conservation risk.
