This is a clustering palm that forms multiple slender, cane-like trunks arising from the base, creating a dense, graceful habit.  The trunks are smooth and lightly ringed, transitioning cleanly into the crown without forming a true crownshaft. Its pinnate leaves are finely divided and strongly arching, with soft, narrow leaflets that give the palm its signature feathery, plume-like appearance. The inflorescences emerge below the leaves and produce small flowers that develop into rounded fruits. When ripe, the fruits turn yellow to orange, adding subtle color and attracting birds in suitable climates.
