This is a unique palm variant that has become super popular in cultivation.  It was first discovered in 2006 growing at the Vakona Forest Lodge in Madagascar, hence its common name.  It is a clustering, sometimes solitary palm with slender green to gray stems ringed with leaf scars.  The crownshaft is a pale white color.  The leaf bases and petioles covered with fuzz and turn from rusty brown to black.  The crown is topped with up to a dozen arching leaves.  The branched inflorescence emerges from the base of the crownshaft.  The small round fruit turns from green to light yellow as it ripens.
