About Chambeyronia macrocarpa var. hookeri
This species is a solitary palm with a ringed green trunk from leaf scars. In addition to new emerging red leaves, its most notable characteristic is its yellow crownshaft, hence its common name. The crown has full, spreading, moderately arching plumose leaves. The branched inflorescence emerges from below the crownshaft. When in bloom, it has small, white and green flowers. The fruit is green at first and turns red when mature. The seeds have a unique pattern of pale fibers.

Cultivation Tips
Select a sheltered location that receives full shade to partial shade when young. As it becomes established, it can handle more sun. Plant in rich soil with good drainage. Water regularly to ensure the roots never dry out. While it prefers warm tropical climates, it is somewhat cold tolerant and will be able to withstand a cooler temperate climate and even an occasional light frost. Feed occasionally during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer.
