About Calyptrocalyx laxiflorus
This is a slender, solitary or lightly clustering palm. Native to rainforests, it grows in the shade of taller trees. Its smooth, narrow trunk supports gracefully arching pinnate leaves, with new fronds often emerging in shades of bronze or copper before turning a rich green. The palm produces long, elegant flower spikes beneath the leaves, with small, creamy blooms that are subtly fragrant. These are followed by glossy red, egg-shaped fruits about the size of a small olive, adding another splash of color to the plant. Shade-loving and moisture-hungry, this species is rarely seen in cultivation, making it a prize for collectors who enjoy its refined form and colorful displays.
