This is a clustering rattan palm native to Indonesia and surrounding regions of Southeast Asia. Like many members of the genus, it produces slender, climbing stems that weave through surrounding vegetation rather than forming a self-supporting trunk. The species develops graceful pinnate leaves and dense clumps that gradually expand over time, while specialized hooks and spiny structures allow the stems to ascend into the forest canopy. In habitat, it is an important component of tropical rainforest ecosystems, where it contributes to the complex vertical structure of the understory and mid-canopy.
