About Borassodendron machadonis
This species is a tall, solitary, tropical palm that is native to the rainforests of the Malay Peninsula. It has a dense crown of dark green, palmate leaves that are deeply split. The glossy leaves have spoke-wheel-like fans and razor-sharp petioles. The inflorescence is stout and forms among the leaves. The exceptionally large, egg shaped fruit turns purplish-green to purple-black when ripe. This species is listed as 'vulnerable' by IUCN.

Cultivation Tips
Select a sheltered position that receives partial shade with filtered indirect sunlight when young. As it matures, it can handle full sun. Plant in rich soil with good drainage. For best appearance, this species requires high levels of moisture and consistently high humidity. Feed occasionally during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer.
