About Attalea cohune
This species is native to Central American rainforests. It is tall and slender, with a straight solitary trunk. The leaves of the Cohune palm are large, pinnate, and can be up to 6 meters in length, with numerous leaflets. The leaflets are long and narrow, with a pointed tip and a sharp edge, and they are a glossy green color. The fruit is a large, round nut that is covered by a fibrous husk that is a reddish brown color.

Cultivation Tips
This species grows best in a sheltered warm spot in a subtropical setting, or in hot and humid tropical environments. It grows well in full sun. Even small, young specimens can tolerate full sun. It is a slow grower until its trunk emerges above ground, and then more rapid growth occurs. Established specimens respond very well to the use of palm and nitrogenous fertilizer. The growth rate of the cohune palm can be increased significantly with regular fertilizer applications. It is considered very disease and pest resistant.
