About Astrocaryum mexicanum
This is a solitary species with a trunk covered with prominent black spines. As the palm ages, they sometimes fall out. The leaves are feather-shaped with green leaflets and silvery undersides. When young, the leaves are almost undivided, but divide as the plant ages. The leaves are held on strong, arching petioles that also have spines. Even the flower spathe is spiny. It is noteworthy for its long lifespan, with some specimens reaching 140 years. Still quite rare in cultivation.

Cultivation Tips
Select a location that receives partial shade and filtered light. It prefers rich, moist soil that's high in nutrients and organic matter. Water regularly to ensure the soil does not dry out in between waterings. Feed regularly during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer.
