About Arenga caudata

This is a clustering species that forms a dense cluster of thin stems. The dark green leaves are fishtail shaped and are silver colored on the undersides.  The small, oval shaped fruit turns red as it becomes ripe.  Still quite rare in cultivation.

Climate Zone 9b
Min Temp (F/C) 25 to 30 F / -4 to -1 C
Leaf Type Pinnate
Height 6 Ft / 1.8 M
Growth Rate Moderate to Fast
Conservation Status

Cultivation Tips

In its native habitat, this is an understory species, so a protected location that receives full to partial shade is optimal.  It thrives in warm, humid, temperate to tropical climates.  Plant in organic, acidic, loamy soil that drains well.  This species does not do well in dryer climates with low humidity. Water regularly to ensure the soil does not dry out in between waterings.  Feed regularly during the growing season with a high quality palm fertilizer.
