This variant is is a rare ornamental form of the familiar Areca catechu. It is a solitary, slender palm with a smooth, ringed trunk that typically grows tall and straight. A pale green to whitish crownshaft gives this variety its distinctive appearance, contrasting nicely with the arching pinnate fronds above. The crown holds numerous graceful leaves, each feather-like and dark green, lending the palm a refined tropical look. Inflorescences emerge below the crownshaft, bearing clusters of cream to yellowish flowers that are followed by ovoid fruits, which in this form are often paler than the standard orange-red fruits of the species.
